"Open Lens II" A Photographic Exhibition at Gallery 7 June 1 ~ July 15, 2011 Important Dates: Now through April 15, 2011 Submission of images April 20 Jurying of submitted images April 25 Notification of selected images by email May 16 - 20 Delivery of selected images May 30 Hanging of exhibit June 4 Exhibit Opening Reception - Meet the Artists, Juried Artist Awards July 15 Artists Closing Reception July 16, 19 - 23 Pick up of remaining photographs "Open Lens II" Prospectus The Exhibit: "Open Lens" will consist of 50 to 60 photographs. Eligibility: Open to any artist. All photographs must be entirely the creations of the submitting artist. Up to five images may be submitted for the $35 jury fee. All works may not have been exhibited at Gallery 7 in the past year. All submitted works must be for sale if selected. Artists must pay the $35.00 jury fee for their submission to be included in the jurying. Sale of Photographs: Photographs which are sold will be taken by the buyer when sold with the exception any any purchase award photographs which will remain on display throughout the exhibit. Payment of any photograph sold during the exhibit will be made to Gallery 7. The Artist sets his or her own prices. Pricing help is available from Gallery 7. A 30% commission will be deducted from the artist's price and the artist will be paid by Gallery 7 within 30 days of the exhibit's closing. Artists with sold pieces may submit a replacement piece which must be a different image and meet the approval of Gallery 7. Artists are responsible for reporting and payment of all State of Illinois Sales or other taxes which will be added to sales and paid to the artist. The artist agrees by submitting any image that it may be used without compensation to the artist for promotional purposes for the “Open Lens” Exhibit. Submission of Photographs: Images must be submitted in digital jpeg format via email. See email address and delivery requirements, image sizing and naming specifications later in this prospectus. Prints of submitted images may or may not be produced prior to exhibit selection, but the artist agrees by submitting an image to print and frame any selected image by the drop off deadline. Jpegs of submitted images should be representative the actual image. Over saturation of color, over sharpening and other digital treatments will factor in the jurying of the image. Rules for submission & Jury Fee: All submissions must adhere to the Photograph Criteria (see below). Gallery 7 reserves the right to refuse work at drop off that is damaged, considered not acceptable for hanging, or does not meet Photograph Criteria. Gallery 7 reserves the right to reject Photographic prints of submitted images at drop off that significantly deviate from the submitted image jpeg file in terms of saturation, sharpness, or pixelazation. The artist may choose to reprint any rejected print of a jury selected image and re-submit a corrected print within one week. Submissions require a non-refundable jury fee of $35.00 to be included in the jury process. The jury fee includes jurying of 1 to 5 images, (not $35 each). A max of 10 images may be submitted. The jury fee payment may be made by check, payable to "Gallery 7" with “Open Lens" on the memo line and mailed to Gallery 7 at 116 N. Chicago Avenue, Suite 102, Joliet, Illinois 60431. The check may be sent before or after the email submission, but must arrive within a week of the date of the email submission. Payment may also be made by credit card via a secure online payment through PayPal at www.hankphoto.com also within a week of the email submission. All credit card payments will be charged an additional $1.50 ($36.50 total) to cover PayPal costs. Artists are responsible for drop and pick up of their photographs in the specified time periods. Photographs left at Gallery 7 for more that 7 days (after July 30th, 2010) after the pick up period of July 15th and 18th through 23rd, 2011, will incur a $5 daily storage fee unless different pick up date is negotiated prior to the pick up period. Photographs left for more than 30 days after the pick up period (after August 23rd, 2010) become property of Gallery 7. Photograph Criteria: Photographs must be the vision of the submitting artist made though a photographic process. The image may be created on film or by digital capture and may be enhanced or manipulated by a computer software, but a computer generated or graphic design image will not be accepted. The photographs must be produced with white or off white matting and framed. Selected images may also be produced in a non-matted but framed treatment or canvas printed images may be framed or non-framed pieces but Gallery 7 reserves the right to reject any framing treatment deemed not suitable for the exhibit. Non-framed canvas prints must have wrap around treatments or black side edges, canvas non framed prints showing white sides or staples will be rejected. The artist retains the choice to re-work the framing treatment if rejected and drop off the re-worked piece within one week. All photographs must be wall hang able with wire hanging hardware. Saw tooth or other hanging hardware will be rejected. The artist may redo the hanging treatment within the drop off period or agree to a wire hanger installation by Gallery 7 with a fee of $5. Any damage to any piece without glass or Plexiglas covering the print, i.e. canvas prints, is submitted at the risk of the artist. There is a size limit for any selected image of 1200 Square inches in total (height X width) and a weight limit of 50 pounds for each piece. Image Naming, Sizing and Delivery Specifications: These specifications must be followed exactly. Any submission not following the specifications will be returned unaccepted. Returned submissions may be resubmitted by the submission deadline if corrected per specifications. Naming of files: Files must be named as such: Last Name, First Name initial, the number 1 through 5 (or the number of submitted images if less than 5. Example: SmithJ1, SmithJ2, SmithJ3, SmithJ4, SmithJ5. Sizing of image files: Images should have no border treatment. Size the image at 1000 pixels on the longest dimension @2oo PPI. Send each image as a separate attachment in one or more emails to: hankphoto@sbcglobal.net. DO NOT embed images in the body of text emails or zip files into one attachment. On the subject line of the email put: “Open Lens Submission”. Submissions not following these guidelines will not be accepted, a rejected submission email will get the reply “please re-submit according to the guidelines”. Gallery 7 prefers artworks to be hand delivered. However Gallery 7 will accept shipments from a non-local locations. A rtists are responsible for costs of shipping to and from exhibit and for providing pre filled out UPS return shipping forms. Any package over 50 lbs. will not be accepted. Artwork(s) must be packed in reusable crate. A $15 administrative fee will be charged for each shipped artwork and must be provided in advance of the end of the exhibit. Shipping address and shipping dates will be provided upon request, do not ship artwork to Gallery 7. Awards: Best of Show, Honorable Mentions, Purchase Awards Gallery 7 will: Hang exhibit and staff Gallery during regular hours and special events, send invites the opening reception to more than 1500 people on its mailing lists, send press releases to publicize the exhibit and the opening reception. Gallery 7 will pay artists for sold photographs by August 23, 2011. Artists are responsible for: Producing images selected from submissions and delivering artworks to Gallery 7 by the deadline; insuring their artwork while it is on display at Gallery 7 (Gallery 7 provides no insurance for your artwork while on display in the Gallery); forwarding email invitation(s) to artist's mailing list and address book; picking up unsold artworks during the published pick up period; being professional and adhering to all Gallery 7 guidelines and rules.
