March Critique Night in the South-Western Suburbs |

Lake Effect Photographic Adventures Presents:
Our Critique Nights are designed with two groups of photographers in mind. For those folks desiring critiques of images not made on our tours, or to see how their best measures up against the comments of long experienced professional photographers, these critique nights offer a chance to have those images critiqued. And while I'd bring some of my best images to a critique, all a critiquer can do with a really great image is to point out what works and why it works so well and offer praise. One of the greatest values in having your images critiqued is in examining those images that you know didn't work like you wanted, those images that you just don't feel are as strong as you would like them to be, but can't put your finger on what isn't right with them. We also offer these critique nights to those photographers who have attended our DayShoots and who would prefer in-person critiques versus critiques made via email as part of the DayShoot event. This also offers DayShoot attendees the opportunity to have more images critiqued that we can offer via the email route. Critique Night attendance is also offered to attendees of PhotoTour which have no critiques designed in to that format and to attendees of workshops that have no formal critique sessions. Our Critique Philosophy: We give well thought out critiques in a positive manner, which still gives image maker information on how to make an image better. As a photographer, you want to be told what works in and image and what doesn't. As a critiquer you want to give the image maker advice not only on what works and what doesn't work, but tell the maker how to accomplish that change. At Lake Effect we also want to critique in a manner that respects the feelings of the person who made the image. As critiquers, we leave our egos at the Door; critiques should be honest, informative, and most importantly positive in nature. The Value of Group Critiques: In these sessions you'll not only gain the lessons contained in your critiques, but also in the critiques made of all the other images of the participants. We encourage all participants to add comments occasionally and will often ask for participant involvement in a critique especially when it aides us in making a point. How it Works: Once you've registered for a critique night, you'll be sent a confirmation and instructions on how to prepare your image files for digital projection and how the files are to be named for easy organization on our end. You'll send us up to eight images by email to arrive at least a week before the critique night. In this manner we'll have all the images loaded up on the computer and ready to go, so we aren't spending critique time loading images on to the computer. *If you still shoot slide film, just let us know and we'll have slide projection available for that evening and you'll just show up with your eight slides. If you shoot negative film, it would be best to have scans made of your images for the critiques, as it is very hard to use prints, even larger prints for group critiques. Fee: $40 sign up via registration page; Go To Registration For DayShoot attendees: sign up by emailing Hank at hankphoto@sbcglobal.net Dayshoot Attendee Eligibility: Anyone attending a DayShoot or PhotoTour in 2009 or later who hasn't sent images for an email critique or who hasn't been sent an email critique to date is eligible for attendance at one of our critique nights which will be scheduled quarterly through out the year in various locations through out the Chicago Metro area. Attendees of workshops without critique sessions will receive invitations for attendance. Lake Effect reserves one half of the Critique Night attendees for non-DayShoot participants.
